shoes
i have a problem. i'm a serial shoe buyer. buyer, not collector. i don't hoard mass amounts of footwear. i just tend to rush to purchase any pair i find puuuuurfect for my feet: "yes miss, i want all 5 pairs, no don't bother with boxes, thankyousomuch *squeaaaaa*".
i revel in the thought of owning a fabulous pair of shoes (and i'm not the sassy sort who limits herself to big names like Jimmy Choo or Gucci can't afford coughcoughcough. show me a bazaar and i'll show you my well honed bargaining skills at acquiring the most ciao pair).
the biggest delight of course comes when someone compliments on what you have on your feet. it's cherry on top of the pie that is made up of the hunt for the most dazzling pair, the moment where your heart flutters hoping the store still has them in your size, the light headed feeling of carrying it home and then the nervous hoping that your mum would not say, "not more shoes?!".
i fell in love with this pair of tan brown brogues in Zara. it was heart wrenching to find out they costed 3590rubles and that as much as i loved shoes, i am not the kind to part with so much money, because the real fun in shoe shopping comes when you get the perfect pair, at a steal price! win-win, see?
it occurred to me last night, that one could equate boys to shoes. not that i am a serial boy collector or anything. no. i was just going in over my head over how there are so many different types of guys and how every type comes with its own load of nonsense/ goodness.
there are the boys that are akin to the most comfortable shoes you've ever owned. you want to wear them everywhere, they match everything and have never once been unkind to your feet. these shoes occasionally become victim of minor wear and tear, but you will go out of your way to have the sole repaired or the heel fixed back on.
these are the shoes that break your heart you one day find a hole in them that you can't repair or that you're all grown up and have outgrown them. you still hold on to them, but in time will need a new pair, and slowly they will make their way to the back of your shoe closet, where come every spring when you're sorting through your treasures, you come across them, get hit by nostalgia until you're finally a big enough girl to throw them out for good, because there's another comfy pair in your life now, but you still hold onto the memory of your once upon a time favourite pair, and this memory will be a yardstick of some sort for all the potential shoes you are gonna commit to.
(my orange vincci flats. they're the most gorgeous orange tone, not neon-burn-your-retinas, but orange peel comforting, have a soft faux-suede lining, which makes it feel like walking barefooted on soft, soft carpet. sadly, they've been out in the rain one time too many and no amount of glue can repair the sole)
then there are the sort of guys that are very much like that 6 inch tall, mega strappy high heel you bought without thinking too much, because it was oozing sophistication and gorgeousness, and you wear it to places where you want people to notice your feet, never mind how badly blistered they're gonna be before the night's out or you'd prolly need orthopedic shoes when you're older to make up for the few hours you allowed that abuse to happen to ze feet. these type of shoes cost a wee bit more and are complete assholes, but you still fall for them because they're just so pretty.
(my nose black high heels, with straps that come up to the ankle, a zip at the back, one size too small, will never feel comfortable, but it makes me about 5 inches taller and people always tell me that i've done well getting them)
then there are the type of guys, who are very much like the shoes you wouldn't be see dead wearing. in my case, i would rather be barefooted than ever, ever don a pair of crocs. don't try and sell me the idea that they're comfortable. they are hideous, with no aesthetic value whatsoever (they look like the bastard child of a pair of clogs and cheap pasar malam slippers) and are made of rubber/ plastic, which means your feet are holed up in a pair of ventilated beach balls.
(i do not own shoes that i don't like wearing, although i do own a pair of uber cute flip flips, with green teddy bear heads on them, that are fun to wear at home, but i would die mortified, if i were caught with them in public...they're the secret shoes you keep to yourself and they're fine because they keep you happy, the world doesn't really need to know that you're a sucker for teddies.)
